Q1 Would you tell us your career as a fashion designer?
I began making one of a kind pieces in school while also working for laurenceleste and Cynthia Ashby here in Chicago... I also worked at vogue fabrics where I was able to support my first few years of starting my business... in May 2005 I decided to design full time and have been growing and learning ever since!

Q2 Would you tell us about your brand? What is the concept behind it?
Stimulated by a vast architectural landscape and a woman's need for function each piece is an exercise in ecological versatility. I believe that there is a direct communication between our bodies and our garments. Nurturing both my customer and our environment, my designs address this relationship through form and utility. Being a "green" company means much more to me than just using eco-friendly fibers. It means supporting the local economy and using the least amount of energy possible. With the help of some very talented people here, I am able to maintain a production practice that isn't commonly used now a days to generate local employment.
Q3 What is your greatest inspiration when you make pieces?
Architecture for sure! There's an amazing paper architect, Greg Lynn and his theories of animation are so inspiring! |

Q11 What do you see Japanese culture? (fashion, lifestyles, etc..)
AMAZING! I know so many American women who are interested in Japanese fashion and culture, and I am one of them! Everything is so beautifully detailed and packaged. There are so many pairings of old and new and so much freedom and experimentation when it comes to clothes! It's great!!

Q12 Where do you go for shopping?
Ebay and thrift stores
Q13 What is your favorite food? Any good restaurants?
Brown Rice Sushi and anything Chocolate!
Q14 Tell us about your next collection? Any future plans?
The next collection is based on a little fantasy that I've made up about a forest and a highway somewhere in nowhere. All of the animals and the danger of crossing the road for them. I've thought a lot about taxidermy and hunting so I immediately began focusing on the shape of ribs and am using a lot of gathering, pleating and textures to mimic theses shapes. My main colors will be black, chocolate, and a really rich wine color. I'm also using a lot of stripes and am low-impact dying some fabrics as well.
Q15 What is your next achievement for your future?
I hope to begin to sell in Japan! |

| Born and raised in Chicago, Lara Miller's work is strongly influenced by the city's architectural and cultural landscape. Ecological sensitivity and fascination with both the built and moving form flow through each piece. Her modular designs are created with a playful geometry that connects to the personalities of the women who wear them. Both joyous and sophisticated, Lara's work has attracted acclaim across the U.S. and recently in the UK. In May 2005, motivated by this idea (and the soaring demand for her ready-to-wear garments), Lara devoted herself full-time to the development of her women's wear line. SAt the personal request of Mayor Richard M. Daley, she serves on The Mayor's Fashion Council where she has helped bring the CFDA to Chicago, established the Macy's incubator program, and created the website chicagofashionresource.com. Her line is carried in stores throughout the United States and is represented by The Four Hundred, New York's first showroom exclusively dedicated to sustainable design. |
