Q1 Could you tell us what did you get the concept for Summer 2008?
My concept every summer where I live, is something light (breathable), feminine, and flattering on most body types. I tend to stick with pretty basic shapes because that is what keeps most bodies beautiful.
Q2 What's a highlight of your recent design career?
A highlight would be when your magazine contacted me for an interview. I am pretty amazed at the peak of interest from the flashfilm magazine. This opportunity to share my vision gives me the energy to continue doing what I'm doing. There are people out there who want to know another point of view when it comes to diversity in women’s bodies. It's exciting!
Q3 Whose closet would you like to raid?

The article of clothing a women needs for summertime is a sundress that is transitional from day to night wear. It needs to be fashion forward, flattering, and ready to wear.
Q5 Who are your fashion icons (past or present)? Do you think they influenced your personal style?
My personal style varies so drastically, that I can say that I don't really stick to just one designer for style. It boils down to how I may feel that day I'm getting dressed. I'm very eclectic day to day... I just want to look good and feel good.

Nikki Walker Warren was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. She grew up in a home where her mother worked as a seamstress and fashion was the focus of her business. Nikki observed closely as she began to pick up some of the skills and interests her mother performed. She watched fashion shows on television and participated in several fashion shows in the local community. Her interests were so strong in fashion that in the 5th grade, when designer labels became household names, Nikki would create her own designs and styles with clothing that was given to her by friends and family members.
Over time she obtained a degree in Communications with an emphasis on Broadcast Journalism and began her career as a reporter for the local newspaper, but her passion still lied with fashion and after a couple of years in her original career field, while living in Washington, DC, she decided to take a risk and start her own line of clothing. In the future, Nikki plans on making The M.O.C.H.A. (Manifesting Our Creative Hidden Abilities) Butterfly a household name, by launching her casual to sportswear line made with quality fabrics that keep customers comfortable but stylish. These designs are created with the diversity of body types that are often overlooked in fashion. Women want to be fashion forward, feel beautiful and make a flattering statement of who they are. "The MOCHA Butterfly style whispers volumes." |

Q7 Who is your average customer and what are they like? Does any celebrity stop by your store?
My average customer is the woman who is looking for versatility in her wardrobe. She is the soccer mom who juggles a rigorous schedule and still wants to make a statement and she is the executive in the boardroom who wants to veer away from the boring suit. The MOCHA Butterfly customer wants to "whisper volumes" about their style.
Q8 What advice can you give to other independent designers that want to do the same?
I encourage other independent designers to follow their hearts on what they feel is their vision. There are many people out there that tell you what is and what is not and their words may not always work for your own work. Listen to those who have true integrity and guidance that will push you in your vision. |
