Q1 Could you tell us what's a highlight of your recent design career?
Last year I opened my own boutique in Ponsonby Auckland. It's so beautiful and something that I have been dreaming about for a long time. When designing collections you cant help but imagine the most perfect space for them to be displayed within – and I think I have now created this for my brand, and four days after I opened the boutique I put on (for the second time) a show at air New Zealand Fashion Week – such a busy but exciting time.

Q2 What would you say is your brand's concept?
I have a design sense that is minimal, clean and well mannered – and my clothing embraces these qualities too. I tend to design clothes that are a blend of classical femininity and contemporary fashion and that make for functional yet beautiful garments. Each piece is modern yet shrouded in a timeless quality, making it able to surpass the seasons

Q3 As a designer, who is your muse?
I have this idea in my head constantly of a well mannered, demure girl who has a mischievous sparkle in her eye and I try and dress her with each new collection I design – there's not just one particular muse just this perception of one.

Q4 Is there a designer who inspires you the most?
Stella McCartney – She has such a beautiful eye for detailing and fabrics.

Q5 Where do you go for inspiration?
I get inspired from all that surrounds me – music, color, textures, yummy things, happiness, people being passionate, everything.... films, books..... random things – I found an insect wing on my pattern drafting table the other day and now its pinned to my pin board......

Q6 What project you are working on right now?
I have just this last week finished my new collection for summer o8 entitled 'as you were'.... - It kind of evolved from the pervious collection. Pretty, feminine, classic but contemporary and all in beautiful, colours, shapes and textures and few pieces hark back to the yesteryear. My designs are kind of 'well mannered'. I've also just finished my sisters entire wedding party outfits. Shes getting married this weekend and her dress is so lovely. I'm so proud and shes so happy. It's my gift to her

Q12 If you can travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
If I wanted to be inspired, excited and stimulated it would definitely be new york. I fell in love with the city when I spent time studying there at parsons school of design. Its just alive with atmosphere and culture. It's difficult to articulate how new york makes me feel – alive and overwhelmed I guess.
And if I just wanted to take time out it would be to this little village in spain nestled amongst the undulating hills and the ocean called cadaques. The water is so blue and warm and there are hardly any people apart form the ones that live there. The hillsides a scattered with olive groves and the buildings are all white washed with beautifully tiled roofs. The little restaurants and cafes serve the tastiest food. And it just oozes a with a relaxed vibe.

Q13 What is your favorite cuisine? Could you tell us a good restaurant in your area?
I love tapas. That you can have so many delicious tastes and textures all in one sitting. I've just come back from a selling trip to Sydney where we went to this restaurant call 'the Victoria room' and it would be my eatery of choice at the moment. Definitely worth a special trip.

Q14 What are your aspirations?
To be content with what I do.... all the time. To show at a new york fashion week and own a boutique there and also attend a gala at the met in New York – how magical would that be?....... To be inspirational to others. To own a private jet..... to be able to travel when and wherever I wanted...... the list is endless.

Q15 Would you like to add anything for the Japanese fans?
That I love the Japanese sense of style – It so quirky and individual. I sometimes wish that New Zealanders would take a page out of your book and be a little more adventurous with their dress sense.

With seven collections under her belt and rave reviews from buyers and media alike and following her participation in the last two New Zealand Fashion Weeks, Juliettes business has grown from strength to strength. The opening of the Juliette Hogan flagship store on auckland ponsonby road in 2007 has further cemented Juliette's position in New Zealands fashion industry and given her a unique platform to convey her vision for the Juliette Hogan brand.

Q7 Could you tell us about your next collection. Any future plans?
I've only just this week started thinking about winter 09, so im not too sure which direction it will take. The next couple of weeks will be spent mulling over designs for my own print. Winter always seems to be a tad moodier in its appearance – darker clothes and quite a foreboding presence in each garment. I love it though – so many more options for layering and creating depth in each 'look'. And exciting too because New Zealand Fashion Week showcases winter collections – so when designing the collection you can be a bit more creative and also tell a whole story about the collection with the show – make- up, hair, music, lighting special effects...... the options are endless. it becomes a true showcase of the brand.

Q8 Whose closet would you like to raid?
Madeline Vionnet. She was so clever at draping. I think the dresses that she created were amazing and would love to be able to see them in real life.

Q9 What do you offer to consumers different than others?
A cool, sophisticated sense of styles, something that isn't too indie or rock and roll but that also isn't too conservative and plain jane. Beautiful clothes that are made out of beautiful fabrics that have a cool, interesting twist to them.

Q10 Music to live by
MGMT, Erykah Badu, Icd Sound System, The National, Stateless, Little Dragon, Beck, Primal Scream, Fiest, a load of different but beautiful music. I couldn't imagine listening to a similar beat the whole time.

Q11 Tell us your secret favorite store.
Apart from my own store obviously it would have to be libertys' in London. Its like this rabbit warren of treats every which way you turn. I love their fabrics. I love the way that the building has so much character and then they choose to fill it with the most beautiful products. I really miss it.
