Q1 Could you tell us where you got the concept for SS collection 2008?
Our inspiration came from bathing beauties of the past. The SS2008 Collection is reminiscent of bikinis you might see in the South of France circa 1970. The clear blue and bright yellow hues evoke a cabana feel and the cream, dark gold and silver mirror the sandy beaches.
Q2 What are the special qualities of your design?
Salt Swimwear is unique because it fits the needs of many women. Our cuts are created to compliment the body and our colors are chosen to match all skin tones. It is important to feel good in your bikini, as we always say, "feeling good leads to looking good". In addition, we have chosen to put covered buttons on most of our suits to add novelty and functionality. You can actually remove your neck straps to get the perfect tan in our triangle tops! |

Q3 Do you have a mantra that you live or work by?
I have always been drawn to this Emerson quote - "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I also think it is very important to treat every person you come across on a daily basis with respect and grace.
Q4 Who are your fashion icons (past or present)? Do you think they influenced your personal style?
Bridget Bardot! She was the original bikini girl. She had a way of making everything she put on look effortlessly right. Yes, she has influenced my personal style a great deal with her carefree nature.
Q5 What are you working on right now?
Right now we just finished our Resort/Holiday 2008 Collection. I am beyond excited about it because we have incorporated prints this time. I don't want to give too much away, but I can definitely tell you that our customers are going to be very pleased!! |

Q9 What is your favorite cuisine? Could you tell us a good restaurant in your area?
I LOVE BBQ Ribs. I am originally from Texas and am holding on to that Southern palate. My favorite restaurant is Baby Blues BBQ in Venice Beach (444 Lincoln Blvd). They know how to do it right. Their ribs melt in your mouth and they serve the most D-liscious blackened catfish po-boy sandwich. Everything is cooked with love..
Q10 Would you like to add anything for the Japanese fans?
I admire your fashion sense and can't wait to come visit some day!! Job well done on the Hysteric Jeans.. |

Salt Swimwear was born in April of 2007. It belongs to owner/designer Layla Pakzad. Layla has lived by the beach for as long as she can remember. Born in Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico, she has been exposed to sandy toes from a very young age. When she wasn't at the beach, she was either traveling the world with her parents or creating. Layla had a passion for bringing her ideas to fruition. She would use anything she could get her hands on and just let her imagination run. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Layla moved to New York City. It was there that she continued her education at FIT (Fashion Institute of Design and Technology) in fashion design. While in New York Layla worked in such fields as Styling and Costume Design. Delving further into the fashion world, she obtained a job at a showroom that represented high-end European designers. With this career she was able to work all of the trade shows that New York is so famous for. Layla moved back to California and continued her career in fashion. She began managing a celebrity clad boutique in Malibu. The knowledge she gained from working in a boutique first hand proved to be invaluable..
With such a passion for travel, Layla found herself on a South East Asia tour in 2006. She traveled through China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia. Along the way she would stop in little towns and have things made out of local fabrics from local tailors. It was in Nha Trang, Vietnam that Layla created her first bikini. This experience was so exhilarating to her that when she returned home it was all she could think about. This is how Salt came to be |

Q6 Who is your average customer and what are they like? Does any celebrity stop by?
A Salt girl is someone who is comfortable in her own skin. She radiates beauty from the inside out. She has a fashion-forward, savvy wardrobe and is not afraid to take risks. Yes, we have many celebrity customers. Top model Marisa Miller is one of our biggest fans! She was just featured in Surfing Magazine's Swimsuit Issue 2008 sporting her pale pink "Claudia" booty shorts by Salt. Mena Suvari was also seen in US Magazine in her burgundy booty shorts and "Kate" bandeau top. Salt has also been seen on the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria, Audrina Patridge and Brooke Burke to name a few.
Q7 What is one item in your wardrobe you can't live without?
My Hysteric Glamour jeans. I love them so much. They give you those stick skinny model legs and a perfect butt!

Q8 What's your best fashion tip on the beach? What's your must items?
Confidence. That is the best thing you can bring to the beach in my opinion. My must item is my IPOD. I don't know how I lived without it. That little guy comes with me everywhere I go! And of course sunscreen - long gone are the days of slathering your body with baby oil.. |
