Q1 Could you tell us the brand concept of Kicking Mule Workshop? When did you start?
KMW launched in Fall 2005. KMW is the study of casual tailored men's clothing. We start with classic American styles then add the Japanese sensibility of blending details with simplicity.

Q2 Please tell us about Summer 2007 collection, how many styles and wash do you offer?
The Spring 07 line is still very focused on denim in classic fits and simple washes.

Q3 Currently which style is the most popular one?
We have four fits and all are evenly popular. The 1950 fit is a classic that tapers slightly from the knee to the bottom hem. The 2010 is our most relaxed straight fit. 1980 is a slim straight fit and the Rocker is a skinny fit that tapers significantly from the knee to the bottom hem.

Q4 What kind of denim do you use for your line?
We use a 14oz denim that is woven exclusively for KMW in Okayama, Japan. It is woven on the old shuttle looms and is hank dyed with natural indigo dyes. The selvedge is half red and half blue.

Q9 What are some of your interests today?
We are really focused on studying the construction details found in wonderfully tailored menswear and bringing those techniques to casual clothing.

Q10 Please tell us about upcoming collection and any projects that you are working on?
We plan to bring a much wider verity of products to the market in 2008 by expanding to chino's, jackets, knits and expanding our denim line.

Q11 what are your long term goals as a designer?
KMW’s long term goal is to slowly develop a full line of clothing. Denim will always be our base line but we would like to add a layer of appropriate styles that are inspired and highly tailored.

Q5 What do you emphasize most in your work? What do you think important for the ideal denim line?
Fabric, fit, and just the right amount of details. We think the fabric must be exceptional and wear in nicely but not easily. We think the color should hold up to many wearings before the color begins to fade. The fit is extremely important so we have spent a lot of time working on the patterns to make a jean that fits a lot of different body types well. Then we try to add the right amount of details that are more of a discover element and purposeful.

Q6 What do you think about current denim trends?
We don't spend much time looking at denim trends. In fact we don't look at "trends" at all. We spend most of our time looking at the past for inspiration then think about ways to modernize what we like.
