Q1 What is the concept of Jalian?
The concept is all about healing the wounds of the planet by reuseing waste found on various travels. And appliqueing earth on the pices to help people to feel where there from..... ultimately leading to a more earth conscious society. |

Q2 Could you tell us about the projects that you are working on right now?
I could go on and on about all the things that I'm working on right now. So I'll just talk about a few....I have a farm in Hawaii that I spend a lot of energy on. planting food trees, vegetables, and all the other things that fome along with homesteading....its pretty much a full time job.... as far as my clothing business I'm still creating pieces for people and trying to develop a line that has the same energy but having help in the manufacturing state, cause I cant do it all.....its turning out to be quite complicated though because they can't seem to be able to make the pieces the way that I do.
Q3 Could you tell us the process of working on your pieces?
The process of my pieces begin with the gathering of the materials which usually give me the ideas from them.....once u have all the materials gathered then you just have to find the inspiration to sit down and make it. |

Q8 What do you feel is important when you are working on your pieces?
I feel it is important to be in a good head space when creating, cause it's not going to be quality when you don't really want to be there....that's the problem with most mass produced clothing....there made without love.
Q9 What do you do on your day off?
Mostly on my days off I try to do nothing except for surfing and enjoying all life around me.

Q10 I heard you are professional surfer too. Why and how did you become designer?
I wouldn't consider myself a professional surfer because it's not really my living, but it is my life and all things revolve around what is going on in the sea.
Q11 Currently you said you live in the Jungle, where do you usually live? Where are you from?
I live mostly on the big island of Hawaii where my farm is, but I also do plenty of travels. I was born in Palos Verdes CA where I was blessed enough to have been raised in walking distance from the waves.
Q12 what do you think about LA?
LA is alright..... I like the geography and the weather and the waves..... and the multicultureness of that city......... but mostly I think that cities are toxic dumps that breed people to be out of touch with nature.

Q4 You use many interesting materials like shells, driftwood, feature and fur from dead animals, why did you decide to use these materials for your line? When do you usually get the inspiration for your works?
I use mostly earth in my line because this is what I want people to feel....there's to much concrete in this world ...and sometimes in my travels I come across a carcass that has been hit by cars, and I feel like the most honorable thing to do for that life is use it.
Q5 Which stores carry Jalian in US and Japan?
Retail stores that carry my product are the Hollywood trading co. in California, and beams in Japan.....I also do plenty of custom orders through my website www.jalian.net
Q6 Are there any places or countries you would like to visit?
There is so many places that I need to travel...... more urgent is Africa, and Scotland and Norway the two places of my ancestry... pretty much there's nothing that I don't want to see. |

Q7 Have you been to Japan? What do you think about Japan?
I love Japan, the topography and the culture there create an ancient vibe that I truly resonate with...... I love it in the country more with the slow life, zen landscaping. the farming.... the ocean..... a very blessed land rich in fertility, I always can see myself traveling there learning from that way of life.....and the curry udon.....ummmmm |

Q14 What is your favorite cuisine? Could you tell us your favorite restaurants?
Favorite foods are things that grow from the ground with living energy..... dead food makes u feel dead... I love when friends come together to share these kinds of meals.... and I don't really go out to eat unless I'm traveling then I just eat what that culture does.
Q15 Could you tell us anything what you think its cool at the moment?
What is cool at the moment is all the caring for earth movement that is flourishing in the younger generations.......whose gonna care what's cool when we have no more home.
Q16 Are there any people who inspired you? Who do you respect?
So many role models in my life to name them all..... pretty much anybody who refuses the toxic life for one more pure... someone who doesn't care if everyone else is doing it..... they do what they do cause it feels right. |

A few, but I'm pretty much out of the fashion loop.
