Q1 Please tell us your brief profile and working career. Why did you become designer?
Soon after graduating in architecture, I created my own architectural practice, but I wasn't a good architect, and became lost in the whole process and very removed from my original aim of making things.

Through this time I was coming up with ideas for furniture and lighting, and when I moved to Thailand in 2002, it was my plan to develop them ............... so my little dream became reality, and now I have a fantastic time inventing things

Q2 What is the concept of your company?
Ango designs encapsulate a simple balance of nature with form and propose an organic micro utopia, where everyone can live with themselves and each other in playful harmony. They are a kind of allegory about how we can live alongside nature in a technological world.

Q3 What is your greatest inspiration?
As well as deriving inspiration from natural forms, I look at the richness and poetry to be found in the extraordinary urban landscapes we've created, and then try to create a synthesis out of it all (nature and the man made).

Q8 What would you be if you weren't a designer?
A carpenter probably

Q9 Are there any places or countries you would like to visit?

Brasil (I'm listening to Flora Purim right now)

Q10 Who is your favorite designer?
Buckminster Fuller

Q11 Are there any people who inspired you? Who do you respect?
At architecture school, the most important tutor for me was David Greene (once of the Archigram group), who was a really great and subtle teacher, and a great inspiration.

Q12 Do you have any advice for the young people?
It may be a long and difficult process, but I think in the field of design it's really important to search inside youself to find the essence in of what you are and what you can contribute

Q13 What do you want to achieve in your career? What is your goal?
I hope to achieve during 2008 the creation of our new factory, which will be a kind of "farm – factory" where we grow some of our own raw materials like bamboo. It'll be a happy little world where we take the concept of bio responsibility to another level. Generally, I just would like to carry on developing ideas.............. and if the world likes them that's great.

Original Ango designer Angus Hutchenson studied in London at the Architectual Association, and graduated from there with Honours, relocationg to Thailand in 2002 with aim of developing furniture and lighting designs. There is a very strong bioresponsibility within Ango designs. The diffusers are fabricated by hand using natural, highly renewable materials including rattan, Mulberry tree bark, silk cocoons and hand cast polymer, that require minimal energy to process. The manufactured part of the light comprising the base and electrical components is easily reused or recycled. The products are produced in a happy environment in Ango's own factory under good conditions. Started in 2003 and based in Thailand where all design, development&production takes place, the brand has been building up momentum, and is now exported throughout the world including Europe, USA, Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

Q4 Could you tell us about your latest trade shows or projects that you are working on right now?
We've just been exhibiting at Tendence show in Frankfurt, and still have shows in Bangkok in October and Dubai in November, followed by a really rather busy schedule all through 2008. The shows are fantastic for communicating with our audience and understanding them. But most of the time I'm immersed in innovating new materials and processes..... and then using these new techniques to realise electro-light fantasies.

Q5 Currently which stores carry your pieces in the world? Price range?
Adolfo Dominguez Home, Spain; Spence and Lyda, Australia; Ford Brady, USA; The Moood, Denmark + stores in most major cities

Q6 What do you think about design industry in your country?
The design industry here has been very supportive and is really sophisticated. But it needs more recognition.

Q7 Who is your dream collaborator?
I work with quite an amazing design team right now:

Aon Sawadchai
Pui Chutitanawong

both exceptional young men
