Q1 When did you first want to be a designer?
I think you can not decide this , I never "become" a designer, I think the creativity is in a person when you are born. Later when you grow up it is coming out, in one or another way. I knew all my live I wanted to do something creative I studied interior design, I could find my self the best in the design of furniture. |

Q2 What's a highlight of your recent design career?
We started sixinch like 4 years ago and it is going very fast, every day is exiting and a new adventure. We do a lot of international design shows, that's very interesting to see the way of things work there, this is always a mind opening experience and always a highlight.
Q3 How was at 100% Design Tokyo? Any great experience?
A good and well organized show, not to big like the show in Milan were you need almost a week to see everything. It was very interesting to see it the Japanese way.

I put my inspiration out of daily life.

Based in Antwerp, Belgium, SIXINCH designer, Pieter Jamart talks flashfilm
"Sixinch is a design and production company. We have our own collection and we produce customized furniture for our clients. The material were we work the most with is PU coated foam, a flexible and waterproof skin witch replaces fabric or leather. In our designs we like to put that little extra, we don't just design a chair or sofa, there're always an extra value, I like to call it design with a smile."
A young, talented interior designer living in the big interior country Belgium is going to New York City for attending The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (www.icff.com) on May 2008 and also paticipating HD 2008 Expo&Conference (www.hdespo.com) in Las Vegas. |

Q6 Would you tell us about a project that you are working on right now?
We are working now on a project for the stand of architonic for the exhibition in Cologne, Germany.
This is going to be a mind blowing project with new techniques and materials. We love to do things witch are never done before and this is one of them. The stand is going to be full of big ice blocks, with new technology the foam gets cutted in organic forms, very impressive.
Q7 What do you think about a design industry in Belgium?
I think very high of it. We are a very small company but we have great designers/architects, Belgians are maybe modest about this but they shouldn't. I think European design is on top of the world and Belgium deserves a place in that ranking. |

Q8 If you can go anywhere in the world where would you go?
With all the design shows we do I come in a lot of big cities, this year 2007 I have been in Paris, London, Tokyo, Milan, New York. Very exiting cities and I love it but if I could choose now I would take a vacation at the Maldives or some other very tropical island, No traffic, no people, no stress,...
Unfortunaly I don't have time to take vacations.
Q9 Favorite cocktail and where to drink it?
I like to drink caipiroska or mojito, my favorite place to have cocktails is a small bar in Antwerp witch is called Mogador. I would recommend everybody who is visiting Antwerp to have a cocktail there.
Q10 What's coming up in 2008? Any plans for exhibition?
2008 is going to by a very busy year again, new collection items, new catalogue, exhibitions in New York, Moskou and Belgium,.... |
