Q1 When did you first want to be a designer?
After my studies in Belgium as a sculptur and ceramist I wanted some more technical background. Therefor I started in the industry, in my case the porcelain industry to have more technical skills. In this way I learned more about design.

Q2 What's a highlight of your recent design career?
The fact that we have many orders from top restaurants.

Q3 Would you tell us about your brand? What is the concept behind it?
Everything in my work has a very natural reason. The industry for whom I work every day has its limits because of the big quantities who have to be made which makes it possible to bring table ware to the market at a low price. The opposite is our Studio Collection which is hand made in small series and which gives me a lot of freedom to develop new products.

Q4 Would you tell us about a project that you are working on right now?
The most important project I'm working at this moment is the renovation of an old stockhouse at one of the coal mines in Genk. The building was designed in 1905 and has a surface of 1700 m2. It will allow us to show my work in a more professional way and to receive visitors.

Q5 Is there a designer who inspires you?
In my younger years it were mostly the scandinavian designers and the arte povra artists who inspired me. Since many years now I follow my own feeling which doesn't exclude that I'm influenced all the time by everything I see.

Q6 Would you tell us the work you enjoyed the most so far?
This is always the latest work I made.

Q7 What is your greatest inspiration when you're making pieces?
The material and the handling of it.
Q14 What do you see Japan from you? (Culture, life style, fashion etc.)
I don't know enough about Japan to have an opinion.

Q15 Any last words?
I like to work.

STUDIO COLLECTION
The activities of the Studio Collection are concentrated in two parts :The first part contains the designs of products for tableware and interior, with the accent on porcelain. The Studio Collection is manufactured by hand in our own studio in small series and distributed to shops in Europe, Japan, Australia and the United States of America. A part of those products are also ideal as relation gifts. A second part contains the designs of dinner-services and jewels in porcelain. They are made on request for external companies. The Studio Collection designs are mainly designed by Piet Stockmans. Since 1997, Widukind Stockmans and Frank Claesen also started to make their own designs for the Studio Collection.
