Q1 Please introduce yourself first, and tell us your music activity.
We are Gojogo, a band that combines Western classical and jazz music with traditional Indian percussion.
Sarah Jo Zaharako: violinist, composer
Eric Perney: bassist, composer
Elias Reitz: percussion, electronic musician
Gabriel Robinson: percussion
Q2 How did you meet with your members and start the band?
The band started as an experimental recording project between percussionist Elias Reitz and violinist Sarah Jo Zaharako. We added the other musicians in order to perform our music live. We never expected such an unusual combination of instruments to work. But the sound was unique and exciting and has provided endless possibilities for new compositions. |

Each member of Gojogo pursues their own individual careers as musicians. We come together as a band to fulfill a common goal and play music that is unique to this group.
Q4 Could you tell us your first album, 'All is fair'?
"All is Fair" is our first full-length album released by Galaxia Records. This album covers two years of musical growth. It represents the beginning stages of our work as a band and even includes an track from our original recording project as a violin-electronic duo ("Hush").
Q5 How did you get the name 'All is fair'? what is the meaning behind it?
The name comes from the famous American quote by Francis Edward Smedley, "All is Fair in Love and War". This is also the title to one of the songs on the album, which was written as a reaction to the last U.S. presidential election. |

Q6 I think your music has originality and traditional spirit. It has electronic elements with experimental nature sound. How do you describe your music?
Gojogo is an unusual quartet that combines the Western sounds of classical and jazz with the rhythmic traditions of India. The acoustic instrumentation includes violin, bass, tabla, and dholki, a double-headed drum from Northern India. Some songs also feature electronic samples. Gojogo performs original music composed collaboratively by the four performers, each drawing upon a different musical tradition and training. Compositions feature improvisation over structured forms, creating space for spontaneity and a medium to present each unique instrument. Gojogo challenges itself to create repertoire that incorporates the eccentricities of its various instruments and musical styles. The result is a sound that defies the borders of any specific genre. |

Q7 What was your early music influences?
Our early influences are as unique as our instruments. We each come from very different musical backgrounds although we are all trained classically in our various disciplines. Elias studied classical North Indian music, Gabriel classical South Indian music. Eric and Sarah Jo studied classical Western music. We all share a broad appreciation for Rock and Jazz, and improvised music from many different cultures. |
