Q1 How did you feel when Lollapalooza Festival call you? What is your goal when playing in the U.S?
I was thrilled to be asked to play the Lollapalooza. It's a huge festival in the US and as an independent artist from Sweden it's a great honour to be booked to such a big festival. I hope more people will get to know my music and that we will get the opportunity to release my albums in the US.
Q2 Could you tell us about your new album, "Jonestown"? Is there any story behind it?
The album "Jonestown" was born one spring night when I watched a documentary about the cult People's Temple. I was very moved by the story about the people involved in the cult and the horrible mass murder that ended it, and that inspired me to write the song "Jonestown" which later became the title track. |

Q3 What's your most memorable on the road story?
My third gig ever was at Sweden's biggest festival "Hultsfred" and that was a really big deal for me then. A few hundred people came to see me play and even though I was totally unknown then, some of them actually new the lyrics to my songs and sang along.
Q4 What is on your rider?
Aside from the usual technical stuff I'm happy to even have a rider. But I do appreciate if there's some cold beers available.
Q5 You have been played all over the places, which venue do you feel the best to play your music? Any favorite venues?
I think the smaller venues which are more intimate are the best ones for my music, I'm not too fond of big arenas. I don’t have a favorites but "Södra Teatern" in Stockholm is probably the most beautiful place I've ever played at. |

Sofia Talvik was born on an island just off the west coast of Sweden. At the tender age of eighteen she left behind the comfort of home for the bright lights and lonely nights of Stockholm where every experience, good and bad, would soon take the form of a beautiful, funny or heartbreaking story destined to capture the hearts and minds of all who would hear the words when set to Sofia's gentle, melodic acoustic guitar and minimalist back up of cellos, double bass and soft percussion.
After releasing a low key but critically acclaimed EP, Sofia set to work fine tuning twelve of her songs for the recording of the debut album Blue Moon. As a writer, artist and producer she oversaw every step of the process and the resultis an album where the lyrics take centre stage and the melodies provide the essence. In January 2007 Sofia Talvik released the second album "Street of Dreams". Written and produced entirely by Sofia herself, this time she took it one step further, releasing it on her own label, Makaki Music. First single from the album is a duet with one of the UKs top indie icons of the last 15 years - Bernard Butler. "It's Just Love" evokes memories of the last great "triumph over adversity" duet; "Don’t Give Up" by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. Sofia's soft, delicate, almost fragile vocals soar over a powerful piano melody punctuated by soft percussion, gentle strings and the rarely heard resonance of an acoustic double bass.
