Q1 Please introduce yourself.
Hi, Janusz Miller, born 1982 in Gdansk, Poland. Man born at the seaside and I really feel bound with the sea. Photographer at the ML Studio agency. Tall guy with headphones on his head and a cig in mouth.

Q2 Could you tell us your career as an photographer? How did you start?
It all started somewhere in 2003. But before that I used to draw and wanted to keep doing that in future, until I realized, that I really suck when it comes to drawing. Anyway, in the mentioned year, my friend got a small digital Fuji camera. As far as it was a gift for her, it was me who was using it most of the time, mainly shooting her. After a couple of months I got an old Russian 35mm cam and got really hooked on film photography. Next there was Pentax, then Canon (both film and digital)... and it stayed like that until the present day. Nobody ever taught me about how to shoot or do any stuff with a camera. I just watched numerous photos of other people and learned what I and how supposingly it can be done, when it came to stuff like composing the frame, metering the light or developing prints.
Q8 What is beauty means to you?
This is a topic for a book, not a question. But to make it short... beauty is not a very attractive woman you see on a huge billboard or even at some top class fashion magazine. For me it's a combination of looks themselves combined with the movement, gestures, tone of voice and scent and a whole lot more. It's all those little things that add up to make a whole image. How a woman sits, walks, laughs or even uses a blow dryer in the morning ;) Damn... for instance that incredibly quiet sound of lips when they open, not to speak, just open... one of my favorite sounds that I can think of. So it's really hard to simply take a photo that represents beauty, It's a still image, no sounds, no movement... you can try to get as close to the thing as it is possible, push the ability to capture it further and further... that's what I love about photography.

Q9 When is the happiest moment as a photographer?
When you manage to catch the moment mentioned above : ) No matter how good you are, you can be La Chapelle, Meisel, Nachtwey or Parr.. still, there is a very true quote about photography. Sorry that I don't remember the autoher, but it went something like "If I knew how to take a great photograph, I'd do it every time". So it really feels great to capture the thing you REALLY want to have.

Q10 Are there any people who inspired you? Who do you respect?
When it comes to fashion and portraits they would be Ellen Von Unwerth, Helmut Newton, Cadance Meyer and Peter Lindbergh. These are my inspirations. And as for respect... oh damn, there are dozens of ones I really respect. Nevermind if it is fashion, reportage, sports or whatever... there are numerous peole out there who simply make great images. Not pros only but also ones who treat photography as a hobby.

Janusz Miller, born in 1982 in Gdansk/Poland. During school years he becomes fascinated with drawing as a form of expression which he eventually gives up to start his adventure of photography. He's been taking pictures since 2003 with women being the particular centre of his photographic works and interests. Woman who are sensitive, rapacious, grown up, strong, self-assured, moody, authentic.
Q3 What photo or art means to you?
I'm not going to talk about art because I am not the one to judge what art is or am I an artist. As for photo... for me it's definitely a way of life. It really gets into mind, you start to look around on the steet and suddenly you realize you are looking with frames, seek composition and get thoughts like "damn, that would look nice on a print".

Q4 Do you have any favorite camera or equipment to work with?
If I was to choose a SLR system I'd go with Canon, I'm simply totally used to it. Not like its better in an way then other systems, simply a matter of what one prefers. I like to work with stuff that is mine for some time already, I feel more attached to it.

Q5 Who is the most inspiring photographer or artist these days in your opinion?
In fashion? I guess Meisel nowadays. But I really think that the most influential ones in this branch were Newton and Avedon.

Q6 What do you look out for when you're shooting?
Lens cap mainly, I always loose these things ;) ... ok, I look out for these moments, sometimes as long as a blink of an eye, when the scene, the model, her look, pose etc. creates a whole image, fits and corresponds with each other.

Q7 Could you introduce your typical projects or works?
Of course I can, but is't it better for everyone to look at them and get their own opinions?

Q11 What gives you the inspiration when you making art?
As I said, I don't know if I'm making art. But when working absolutely everything can be inspiring. You never know when you'll see or hear something that will bring up an inspiring thought.

Q12 What's coming up in 2008? Any plans for exhibition?
There are some plans for an exhibition in UK, no idea if it will work out... hopefully yes.

Q13 What is your vision in the future?
Photos photos and more photos, better ones, with more skills and experience gained.

Q14 Any last words?
Stop talking and start shooting.
